National Education Association - State by State Guide
State-by-State Booklist
A popular activity is to "travel" across a map of the U.S. by reading a book that takes place in each of the states. (A variation is to read a book whose author lives in a particular state, or a book about a particular state.) If your class is participating in this activity and you are a book or two short, or your students are eager for more, try these titles.
Read Across America
The summer after I was in first grade, we
did not go on a vacation because my
mom was taking classes at school, but we
did manage to visit every state in the
union without ever leaving our house! My
mom, little sister and I read our way
across America. It was alot of fun! You
can do it, too! Here were some of our
favorite stops on our journey to each
state.
Have a good trip,
Rachel
